Curraghchosaly Mountain

The walk up Curraghchosaly Mountain from Omagh side is straightforward enough, and the views across Fermanagh and into Tyrone are worth the hour or so it takes. You're looking at decent moorland walking rather than serious mountaineering - the paths are clear enough, the slopes manageable. On a clear day you can see for miles, which does something to justify the effort. The real appeal here is that it's close to town yet feels properly remote; you won't be jostling with crowds.

This is walkers' territory, full stop. Families with young kids might find it a bit of a slog without much payoff - there's no cafe at the top, no visitor centre, just wind and views and the satisfaction of having got yourself up there. If you're after a proper hike with actual teeth to it, look elsewhere. But if you're basing yourself near Omagh and want a half-day out on the hills without disappearing into the wilderness for six hours, it'll do the job.

Gortin Glen Glamping sits just a mile or so away, which makes this a natural pairing if you're after rural accommodation with some walking on the doorstep. The weather can turn quickly up here, so go prepared - waterproofs aren't optional, they're essential. The best visit is probably late spring or early autumn when the light's decent and the midges have given up.
