Standing guard over Pembroke's medieval heart, these substantial Georgian barracks were built in the 1840s to house troops protecting the Royal Naval Dockyard. The fortress-like walls and imposing gatehouse create an impressive sight from the town centre, though you'll need to peer through the gates to appreciate the courtyard architecture within.

History enthusiasts will find plenty to interest them in the military heritage, while the commanding position offers decent views across the town towards the castle. Kids might enjoy spotting the defensive features, but there's not a huge amount to occupy them for more than half an hour.

Access appears limited - this isn't a full tourist attraction with guided tours and gift shops. It's more of an architectural curiosity you'll encounter while exploring Pembroke's historic quarter. The barracks work well as part of a walking tour that takes in the castle and town walls.
