Graig Wen

The walk up Graig Wen from Cemaes Bay is short, sharp, and honestly a bit of a slog for what it delivers. You're climbing roughly 300 metres to reach the summit, and there's nothing gradual about it - the path cuts straight up without much mercy. Once you've got your breath back though, the views across to Snowdonia and out toward the Irish Sea make the huffing worthwhile. On a clear day you can see proper far, which is rarer than you'd think on Anglesey.

It's best tackled by people who like their walks no-nonsense and compact. Families with young kids might find the steep approach frustrating rather than rewarding, but teenagers keen on a quick peak bagging exercise will rate it. History buffs won't find much to linger over - this is pure landscape. Allow an hour return trip if you're fit, maybe ninety minutes if you like a slow pace and a good stare at the scenery. There's no café at the top, so bring water.

If you're camping nearby - Dolydd or Mount View Caravan and Camping are the closest - this works well as a morning mission before heading to the beach at Cemaes itself. It's the sort of thing you do in decent weather, not when clouds are hanging low. Worth the walk? Yes, just don't expect to spend half the day there.
