"Division Bell" view of the Cathedral

You'll find this viewpoint just outside Ely, named after Pink Floyd's 1987 album - a nod to the cathedral's famous bell tower. It's a straightforward spot where you can pull over and take in one of the best unobstructed views of Ely Cathedral across the flat Cambridgeshire landscape. The cathedral's octagonal lantern absolutely dominates the horizon from here, and on a clear day it's genuinely striking how it rises out of the fenland.

The whole thing takes five minutes, maybe ten if you're the type to linger with a camera. It's not a destination in itself - more a proper stopping point when you're driving through the area. Families with young kids might find it a bit underwhelming unless they're already cathedral enthusiasts, but walkers heading into Ely town centre should absolutely swing by. History types will appreciate standing where the view has barely changed for centuries.

Free to access, no facilities on site. Best visited in good weather when the light hits the cathedral properly - misty mornings can obscure the whole thing. If you're staying at Hatters Meadows or Heatherbield Lodge, both within three miles, this takes barely any effort to fit in before heading into Ely proper. It's the kind of stop that rounds out a cathedral visit nicely rather than filling an afternoon, but it's worth the five-minute detour.
