Dorset National Landscape

The Dorset National Landscape stretches across some of the most dramatic coastline and rolling countryside in southern England, and it's the kind of place that rewards you for getting out of the car and actually walking it rather than just driving through. Near Waddon, you're looking at everything from chalk cliffs to heathland, with the sort of views that remind you why people bang on about the Jurassic Coast so much - though honestly, you don't need to trek to the famous bits to find something worthwhile.

This isn't a single attraction with an entrance fee and a gift shop. It's the landscape itself. Walkers absolutely thrive here - the terrain ranges from gentle riverside paths to proper clifftop hikes that'll test your legs. Families with younger kids can manage shorter sections without feeling short-changed. Photographers could lose an entire day chasing light across the hills and valleys.

Free to explore, though you'll want proper footwear and an OS map or decent phone navigation. Allow anywhere from two hours for a gentle stroll to a full day if you're doing a proper circuit. Spring and early summer are brilliant for wildflowers; autumn gives you the clearest views without summer crowds.

If you're camping at Buckland Campsite, Bagwell Farm, or one of the other sites clustered within four miles, you've got excellent access to the landscape without needing to drive far each morning. The proximity to Waddon means supplies are close by, but the countryside you'll be walking through feels properly remote. It's less touristy than you'd expect for somewhere this accessible.
