Dragonfly is a contemporary art gallery just outside Nottingham that punches well above its weight. The space itself - all clean lines and excellent natural light - lets the work breathe properly. You're looking at rotating exhibitions that lean toward emerging and mid-career artists, with a real focus on craft and technique rather than the oh-so-clever conceptual stuff that leaves you cold.

It works brilliantly if you're the sort who actually looks at art rather than just walks past it. Walkers and outdoor types doing the circuit from Gunthorpe Camping or Peacock Lake Glamping might find an hour here a welcome break from the countryside. Families with teenagers interested in anything beyond Instagram will get something out of it, but younger kids will struggle after twenty minutes. The beauty of it is you're not locked into a three-hour trudge like you would be at a major institution.

Getting there from Nottingham is straightforward enough, and the gallery sits nicely as a half-day stop if you're based at any of the glamping spots within five or six miles - Birdholme or Wolds Wine Estate work particularly well if you fancy combining art with a vineyard visit. Go midweek if you can. Weekends bring the Instagram brigade, and it dilutes what makes the place worth your time in the first place.
