The rowing lake here is genuinely impressive - a 2km course built specifically for the 1986 National Water Sports Centre, and it still draws serious athletes and casual paddlers alike. You'll see racing shells gliding past, kayakers learning the basics, and if you time it right, competitive events that draw crowds from across the Midlands.

It's primarily a working sports facility rather than a leisure attraction, which means the vibe is quite different from your typical country park. That said, the grounds are open to the public and there's proper value in watching the water sports in action. Walkers appreciate the paths around the lake - decent views, especially on clear days when you can see across to the surrounding farmland. Families with older kids who fancy trying paddling lessons will find instruction available, though booking ahead is essential.

You won't spend hours here unless you're genuinely interested in rowing or water sports. An hour to ninety minutes is realistic for a wander and a watch. The real draw is combining it with the excellent network of caravan sites clustered nearby - Holme Pierrepont Campsite is barely half a mile away, making this an easy add-on to a longer East Midlands trip.
