Drum Ddû

The walk up Drum Ddû is steep, relentless, and absolutely worth the effort. This modest peak sits above Llangammarch Wells in Powys, offering proper views across the Irfon Valley that justify the climb. You're looking at a couple of hours round trip from the valley floor - bring decent boots because the terrain gets boggy and unforgiving in places.

It's a walker's peak, really. No easy short stroll here, no summit cafe, no visitor centre. What you get instead is solitude and that genuine sense of achievement when you hit the top. The views sweep across Mid Wales farmland, and on a clear day the visibility stretches well beyond Llangammarch Wells itself. In autumn the light hits differently up here - golden and slanting through the cloud breaks in a way that makes the effort feel proper worthwhile.

Families with energetic teenagers might manage it. Young kids will struggle with the gradient and distance. Serious fell walkers will find it a decent warm-up for more ambitious peaks nearby. The peak works brilliantly as part of a longer walking holiday - pair it with days at Irfon River Caravan & Camping Park or Riverside Caravan & Camping Park, both within spitting distance of Llangammarch Wells, and you've got yourself a solid few days of valley and hill exploration.

No facilities at the summit. Check the weather before you go - this isn't the place to get caught in cloud and lose your bearings. Start early, especially in winter when daylight goes quick.
