Duloe (St. Cuby) Church

The lane gets properly narrow as you approach Duloe, and then suddenly there it is - a small granite church with a circular churchyard, surrounded by the kind of Cornish countryside that makes you understand why people move here and never leave. St. Cuby's Church sits quietly just inland from Looe, and it's one of those places you'd completely miss if you weren't looking for it.

What makes Duloe special isn't flash architecture or crowds - it's the stone circle just outside the churchyard. Nine stones arranged in a perfect ring, probably Bronze Age, which means it's been sitting there for something like 4,500 years. The church itself is medieval, built on what was clearly already a sacred spot. Walk around the graveyard and you get that sense of deep time - people have been buried here for centuries, and before that, people were gathering for entirely different reasons.

This works best for walkers and anyone interested in archaeology without the museum stuffiness. Kids might find it mildly interesting for twenty minutes, but it's not a destination that'll keep them entertained for long. The churchyard's lovely for photos, especially if you catch it in low light.

It's genuinely free to wander round, and there's no set hours - just rock up. Allow an hour if you're thorough, half that if you're just passing through. It sits perfectly between Waterside and Tregoad Holiday Parks if you're based near Looe, a quick drive or decent walk inland from the coast. Pair it with a seaside afternoon and you've got a proper morning sorted.
