Dumfries and Galloway Golf Course

Eighteen holes of proper parkland golf stretch across rolling countryside just south of Dumfries town centre. The course sits on well-drained ground with mature trees framing several fairways and the River Nith meandering alongside a couple of holes.

Golfers will find a mix of challenges here - nothing too punishing for weekend players, but enough variety to keep things interesting. The par-72 layout includes a couple of tricky dog-legs and water hazards that come into play on at least three holes. Views across to the Galloway hills provide a decent backdrop, though you'll be too busy watching your ball flight to admire them much.

This is very much a members' club with visiting golfers welcome, though it's worth calling ahead to check tee times and green fees. The clubhouse is traditional rather than flashy - decent enough for a post-round pint and pie.

Families staying at nearby parks like Marthrown of Mabie or Landal Barnsoul will find this a good option if dad (or mum) fancies a proper round. Non-golfers might prefer exploring Dumfries itself, just a few minutes' drive north. The course works well as part of a longer Galloway holiday, particularly if you're touring the region and want to squeeze in some golf between castle visits and forest walks.
