Dunkeswell Sports Field

The sports field at Dunkeswell is less of a destination in itself and more of a useful waypoint if you're exploring the wilder corners around Honiton. It's basically an open meadow that doubles as a nature reserve - the sort of place where you can actually breathe properly and let the kids run about without worrying about traffic.

Walkers get the most out of it. There are decent paths threading through, and depending on the season you'll spot anything from common birds to the occasional deer if you're quiet enough. It's genuinely peaceful - no play structures, no ice cream van, just grass and trees and the occasional sound of actual wildlife. Bring binoculars if you're into that sort of thing.

The honest bit: it's not a destination on its own. You won't drive an hour to get here. But if you're staying at Hartridge Springs Spa Glamping nearby, or you've come to Honiton for shopping or bits and pieces, it's absolutely worth a walk-around. Free access, no official opening hours that I could find - you just turn up. Allow 45 minutes to an hour if you're ambling.

It works well as part of a broader explore of Devon's quieter spots. Kids will find it tedious after half an hour unless they're genuinely into nature, but for actual walkers seeking a bit of green space away from the typical tourist trails, this delivers. Real place, real quiet.
