Easterton Clump

A small woodland rising abruptly from the Lowland plateau near Biggar, Easterton Clump is the sort of place you'd stumble upon rather than plan for. The trees aren't ancient or particularly dense - it's more a proper little forest than some grand arboreal statement - but the walk up rewards you with views across farmland that stretches toward the Southern Uplands. On a clear day you can pick out quite a bit of the surrounding countryside. The path isn't marked with any fuss, and the whole thing takes maybe 45 minutes if you're not in a hurry. Kids won't get bored if they're the type who enjoy a gentle woodland ramble and a bit of a vantage point, though there's no playground nonsense or facilities to speak of. It's free to access, as far as anyone can tell, and works well as a half-morning venture if you're based at Mount View Caravan Park nearby. The real value here is that it breaks up a drive through the Lowlands and actually gives you a sense of the landscape rather than just seeing it from the car window. Not Instagram-worthy, but honest and worth the detour if you're in the area.
