Eden Cloud Chamber

Standing in what feels like a giant camera obscura, you're looking at one of Britain's most unusual art installations. The Eden Cloud Chamber, created by artist Chris Drury, is a circular stone structure with a single aperture in its domed roof that projects live images of the sky and passing clouds onto the floor below. It's proper mesmerising - you find yourself lying on the stone floor watching weather systems drift across in real time.

This isn't your typical gallery experience. Located near Tregrehan Mills, the chamber sits in the landscape like an ancient monument, though it was built as part of contemporary art projects in Cornwall. The magic happens when sunlight streams through that carefully positioned opening, creating an inverted image of whatever's happening above. Cloudy days are actually better than blazing sunshine - you get more dramatic projections.

Art lovers and anyone fascinated by light and shadow will spend ages here, though restless children might get fidgety after twenty minutes unless they're the type to lie still and watch clouds. The installation works year-round, but checking the weather beforehand makes sense since overcast skies create the most striking effects.
