Eglwys Llanbadrig | Llanbadrig Church

Walk down the cliff path towards Cemaes Bay and you'll find yourself at one of Anglesey's most wonderfully isolated churches. Eglwys Llanbadrig sits right on the headland, practically on the rocks, with the Irish Sea hammering away below. It's a small, ancient place - the kind of church that feels like it's been here forever, which it more or less has.

The setting is the real draw here. You get proper coastal views, the sort where you can stand outside and remember why people bothered building churches in awkward places in the first place. There's a sense of peace about it, though you'll want to time your visit carefully - the weather can turn quickly on this stretch of Anglesey coast, and the path down isn't forgiving in the rain.

It's free to visit and there's no formal opening hours, which is both brilliant and slightly nerve-wracking. Families with younger children might find the coastal walk more memorable than the church itself - allow a good hour if you're making a proper outing of it. Walkers heading along the Anglesey coastal path will pass this way anyway, so it works perfectly as a stop-off rather than a destination in itself.

If you're camping at Dolydd or any of the sites around Cemaes Bay, this is worth the short detour. Combine it with a walk along the headland and you've got a decent half-day sorted. Just bring a waterproof - the wind here means the weather changes faster than you'd think.
