Eglwys y Santes Rhyddlad, Llanrhyddlad

This remote 12th-century church sits in a quiet corner of Anglesey, a few miles south of Holyhead, and it's the kind of place you stumble upon rather than plan for. The stone building itself is modest - nothing flashy - but it has that genuine medieval feel that makes church historians genuinely excited. The interior keeps its original character: simple, austere, and very much working chapel rather than museum piece.

You'll want to allow 20 minutes max, unless you're really into ecclesiastical architecture or local history. The real appeal is the walk itself and the sense of being properly off the tourist trail. It's peaceful in a way that feels rare, and the surrounding countryside gives you proper Anglesey - rural, windswept, and honest.

For families with younger kids, this won't hold their attention long. Walkers and history types will appreciate it far more. The nearest campsite is Pengraig, less than a mile away, making it an easy detour if you're based at one of the holiday parks dotting the area - Sandy Beach or Penrhyn Bay are both close enough for a morning visit without fuss.

Be aware: there's no visitor centre, no facilities, and no guarantee of opening times. This is the real Anglesey, not the polished version. Check locally before you go, but that's partly what makes it worth the trip.
