You'll know Erriott Wood by the way it suddenly appears - dense, proper woodland that feels a world away from Faversham's Georgian high street, yet only minutes on foot from the town centre. It's the sort of place where the canopy gets thick enough that you lose track of time, with decent footpaths threading through beech and oak that shift colour dramatically across the seasons.

The woodland isn't vast, but it's well-formed for a serious walk without the commitment of something like Blean Woods further afield. You're looking at perhaps an hour to explore properly, longer if you're the type to sit on a log and sketch or just listen. Families with younger legs will find it manageable - the paths aren't technical, though they do get muddy after rain.

What makes it worthwhile is the peace. No visitor centre, no facilities, just trees and the occasional glimpse back towards Faversham's rooflines. Spring brings bluebells in proper clusters, and autumn's the obvious winner for colour. Winter's fine too if you don't mind it stark and grey.

If you're camping at Painters Farm just up the road, this is exactly the sort of morning escape worth lacing your boots for - close enough that you won't waste half your day on travel, substantial enough that it feels like a proper adventure rather than a quick stroll. It's not the showiest woodland in Kent, but it's genuine, accessible, and rarely rammed.
