Eustace's Plantation

Deep woodland walks through managed forestry make up this stretch of Cornish countryside just outside Ventongimps. Eustace's Plantation feels properly remote despite being easily accessible, with well-maintained tracks winding through mixed woodland that's clearly been thoughtfully planted over the decades.

Families with energetic kids will find plenty of space to roam, though the paths can get muddy after rain so proper walking boots are essential. The plantation works well for dog walkers too - lots of interesting scents and safe areas to let them off the lead.

Expect a couple of hours to do the main circuit comfortably, though you could easily spend longer if you're into wildlife spotting. Spring brings decent bluebells, while autumn delivers proper colour from the mixed deciduous sections.

Practically speaking, it's one of those places where you just turn up and explore - no visitor centre or facilities, so pack water and snacks. The lack of signposting means it's not ideal for anyone who gets anxious about navigation, but that's rather the point.

From the nearby holiday parks around Monkey Tree and Tollgate Farm, it makes a good morning out before heading to the coast. Worth combining with a pub lunch in Ventongimps afterwards.
