About Farley Hill
The hill itself is accessible enough for most walkers, though it's a genuine effort rather than a stroll. Families with older kids will manage fine; younger ones might find it tedious if they're not into the walking bit. History types will appreciate the remains of Farley Church near the summit - a ruin that adds a bit of narrative to what could otherwise just be a walk up a slope.
Allow a good couple of hours if you're coming from Guildford and want to do the approach properly. There's no visitor centre or café, so bring water and a sandwich. The area works brilliantly as part of a longer Surrey Hills circuit - pair it with walks from nearby Chantry Wood Campsite or Firesyde if you're based at one of the local parks, both just a couple of miles away.
Best visited when the weather's cooperating. Muddy and grey, it loses its appeal fast. Spring or autumn tends to work well - fewer visitors, better light, and the ground's usually firmer underfoot. It's free, obviously, and you can visit whenever you fancy.
