Farmer Palmer's Farm Park

A working farm turned family attraction just outside Poole, Farmer Palmer's is the sort of place where kids actually learn something without realising they're being educated. You're looking at hands-on animal encounters - feeding time is the main event - plus tractors, a play area, and the kind of farm shop where the produce actually tastes like something. The whole setup appeals to families with young children who've got energy to burn and a genuine curiosity about where food comes from. Older kids might find it a bit tame once they've done the rounds, but the animals keep things interesting enough for a solid half-day visit.

It's genuinely useful if you're based at one of the nearby holiday parks - Parkdean Resorts Sandford is practically on the doorstep at less than a mile away, and South Lytchett Manor is barely two miles off. Haven Rockley Park and Wareham Forest Tourist Park are also within reasonable driving distance. Most families pair it with a beach trip to Poole or a walk around the harbour rather than make it the whole day's entertainment.

The farm works best in decent weather and during school holidays when the staff are running full timetables of activities. Off-season visits can feel a bit flat. Admission is typically charged, though the exact cost changes seasonally. Allow two to three hours maximum - any longer and you're overdoing it. It's solid value if you've got toddlers or early primary-age kids, less compelling for teenagers.
