Fegla Fach

You'll spot Fegla Fach on the map as a modest peak sitting just outside Dolgellau in Gwynedd, and it's exactly the sort of walk that rewards you without demanding hours of your life. The ascent is straightforward - nothing technical, no scrambling to speak of - and from the top you get proper views across the surrounding hills and valleys. The local camping spots like Graig Wen, just a mile away, make it a natural fit for a day's walking if you're staying in the area.

Walkers will find this more rewarding than families with young children, though teenagers who don't mind a steady uphill trudge will probably enjoy the sense of having "done" a peak. The real draw is the isolation - you won't find crowds here like you might on some of the bigger Snowdonia routes. Allow a couple of hours from base to summit and back, depending on your pace and whether you stop to take in the views halfway up.

It's free to walk, naturally, and there's no particular season to avoid, though winter conditions can make the path boggy in places.
