The woodland here stretches across a decent patch of Sussex countryside just inland from Bexhill-on-Sea, offering proper walking territory if you're after something beyond the seafront. It's the kind of place where you can actually lose an hour or two without realising - paths wind through mixed woodland, though it won't set your heart racing if you're expecting dramatic scenery.

Walkers will get the most from Francis Wood. The terrain suits a casual amble rather than anything strenuous, and it's the sort of spot where you notice things if you're paying attention - seasonal wildflowers, bird activity, the occasional deer if you're lucky. Families with younger kids might find it bit samey after forty minutes or so, but those who like a gentle woodland ramble will find it worthwhile.

There's no visitor centre or facilities that I'm aware of, so come prepared. It costs nothing to access, and you can spend as long as you like wandering the paths. Best visited outside peak summer weekends when the car park isn't rammed.

If you're staying at Normans Bay Camping and Caravanning Club Site nearby, this makes a solid morning or late-afternoon outing before heading back to cook dinner. It's not a destination in itself, but as part of a broader weekend exploring the area around Bexhill, it fills a gap nicely. Worth the drive if you're already in the region and want to break up a seaside holiday with some proper woodland air.
