Getting to Gainmheach Achadh Deuthasdal requires a bit of effort, but that's precisely why it remains quiet. This is a proper Highland beach - golden sand, dramatic cliffs behind, and the kind of light that makes you understand why people move here permanently. The walk in from near Gairloch takes you through real landscape, not manicured paths, so wear decent boots.

What you're looking at is a curved bay with good sand coverage and rock pools that reward poking about. On a clear day the views stretch far enough to make you forget how close you are to Gairloch. The water's cold enough to need a wetsuit unless you're Scottish by birth, but paddling and beachcombing are the real draws here.

This works brilliantly if you're staying at Sands Caravan & Camping - it's only a few miles away - and you want to escape the busier beaches without going too far. Families with younger kids might find the walk tiresome, but teenagers and adults who like their beaches without the commercialism will get proper value from it. Allow a couple of hours if you're not rushing.

Timing matters. Come when there's low tide to access the full bay and the rock pools. Summer weekends still see other visitors, but nothing like the crowds at more famous Highland spots. Winter brings dramatic skies and often complete solitude. The beach won't suit everyone - it's raw rather than comfortable - but that's exactly the point.
