Galgorm Wood

The woodland walk at Galgorm is proper lovely if you're staying around Ballymena and fancy stretching your legs without much faffing about. It's a genuine bit of old forest - the kind of place where the light filters through in that particular way that makes you remember why you bothered leaving the caravan.

You're walking through mixed woodland with the River Bann running alongside, and it's the sort of terrain that rewards a slow pace. Nothing dramatic, nothing you'll be posting about for months afterward, but genuinely pleasant. The trees are mature, the paths are manageable, and on a quiet morning you might have the place entirely to yourself.

Walkers will get the most from this. It's not a scramble or anything technical - just a solid two-hour amble if you cover the main route, less if you're not interested in the full loop. Families with younger kids will manage fine on the main paths, though it's not the kind of place that grabs their attention for hours. History types won't find much in the way of ruins or plaques; it's just woodland that's been here, doing its thing.

Free to access and no particular season matters, though late spring when things are properly green is nicer than trudging through it in November mud. If you're based at Sunset Glamping nearby, it's an easy enough drive to clear your head for an afternoon. Not essential, not unmissable, but solid.
