Garden of Rest

The Garden of Rest sits just outside Wisbech and is exactly what the name suggests - a quiet pocket of nature where you can actually hear yourself think. It's a proper nature reserve rather than some manicured garden, which means you'll find wetland areas, rough grassland, and the kind of wildlife that thrives when humans mostly leave things alone.

Walkers and birdwatchers will get the most mileage out of a visit. The reserve isn't vast, so you're looking at an hour or so if you move at a leisurely pace, maybe two if you're serious about spotting things. The habitat draws waterfowl in particular, which makes it worth bringing binoculars and a decent camera if you're into that sort of thing. Children won't hate it, but this isn't the kind of place with activities or visitor facilities - it's genuinely a nature reserve, not a theme park.

If you're staying at one of the nearby parks - Parklands Holidays or Laurel Park Campsite are both just a few miles away - the Garden of Rest makes a decent morning outing before heading elsewhere. It's not a full day's event, though. The real value is as a break from the caravan, somewhere to stretch your legs and maybe see some interesting birds.

Admission details aren't widely advertised, which suggests it might be free or very cheap. Best approach is to ring ahead or just turn up - Wisbech is small enough that locals can point you in the right direction.
