Skylark Studio Gallery

Skylark Studio Gallery sits just outside Wisbech, a working artist's space where you can actually watch makers at it rather than just gawp at finished pieces behind glass. That's the whole point of it - real studios, real people creating, and genuinely approachable work on the walls.

What you get is contemporary art without the pretension. Paintings, sculpture, prints - the sort of thing that doesn't require a degree in art history to understand or enjoy. You can walk in, have a chat with the artists if they're around, and leave without feeling pressured to spend a fortune. It's low-key in the best way.

The gallery works brilliantly if you're staying at Parklands Holidays, which is basically on the doorstep - less than half a mile away - or any of the other parks scattered around the Wisbech area. Spend a morning here, stretch your legs, then get on with exploring the Fens. Allow an hour or so unless you're genuinely into contemporary art, in which case you might linger longer.

Best suited to adults and older kids who aren't after theme parks or loud attractions. Young children might get restless. Admission details weren't available when we checked, so ring ahead or check their website before you go. It's the sort of place that rewards a casual visit - no need to plan it as your holiday highlight, but well worth popping into if you're in the area.
