About Garnett's Wood
This is walkers' territory, mainly. Families with young kids will get a decent hour or so out of it before the novelty of "more trees" wears thin, but if you've got older children who can handle a proper countryside walk, they'll actually enjoy the relative peace. Dog owners love it too - lots of room to let them run without feeling guilty.
The wood works well as a half-day stop if you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks - Golden Grove, Dairymeade Farm, or Stocks Farm are all within shouting distance and rated highly by their guests. You can knock out a brisk walk here, grab a coffee back in Dunmow, and still have the afternoon free for something else. It's not dramatic or Instagram-worthy, but it's genuine and unremarkable in the best way - just a place where people still go to walk in the woods without expecting it to be anything more than that. Arrive early if you want the car park to yourself.
