Glasfryn Parc

The stone circle at Glasfryn Parc sits on a gentle rise near Pwllheli, commanding views across the Llŷn Peninsula. It's not ancient - the stones were erected in the 1970s by a local farmer - but that doesn't diminish the effect. Stand at the centre and the Snowdonia ridge dominates the southern horizon, and on clear days you can trace the coast curving away towards the Irish Sea.

You'll want to allow twenty minutes here, though walkers often linger longer. There's no visitor centre, no café, no interpretive panels - just the stones and the landscape. That's rather the point. It works particularly well for anyone staying at the glamping sites dotted around Pwllheli, especially Away From It All or Llwyn Ffynnon, both within a couple of miles. You can walk here from those bases without much bother.

It's free and accessible year-round, though the Llŷn Peninsula wind has teeth even in summer. Families with young children might find fifteen minutes sufficient, but anyone interested in landscape, stone circles, or simply standing in an open space thinking about nothing in particular will find it worth the detour. The farmer clearly understood something about what makes a place matter - and it wasn't necessarily age.
