Glen Howe Park

There's something about walking into Glen Howe Park that makes you forget Sheffield's on your doorstep. It's a proper woodland space - the kind where the canopy gets thick enough that you lose track of time, and the ground underfoot switches from tarmac to leaf litter without ceremony.

The forest here is dense and genuinely lovely for a wander. Paths wind through, though they can get boggy after rain, so proper shoes matter. You're looking at beech and oak mostly, with enough variation in the terrain to keep legs engaged without being punishing. It's the sort of place where kids will actually want to explore rather than ask how long until you turn back - fallen logs become obstacles to navigate, moss-covered stones turn into stepping stones. That said, if you're after dramatic vistas or a showstopper view, this isn't it. It's subtle woodland, which means either you're into that or you're not.

Give it an hour minimum if you're just after a straightforward walk. Longer if you like to meander. No facilities that I could find, so bring water and snacks if you're staying a while. It's free access - one of those lovely Yorkshire parks that doesn't charge you to exist in it.

If you're based at Boots and Bubbles glamping nearby, this makes a decent morning or late-afternoon outing before settling in for the evening. It's not dramatic enough to plan a day around, but it absolutely earns its place in a broader park-hopping itinerary around South Yorkshire.
