Glenaan Scenic Route

The drive through Glenaan is one of those stretches where you actually want to pull over every five minutes because the landscape keeps throwing something new at you. It's a scenic route rather than a single destination, winding through a deep valley with steep sides that catch the light differently depending on the time of day. Most people experience it as part of a larger journey around the Causeway Coast, heading between Ballycastle and the glens inland.

What makes it worth the detour is the sheer drama of the terrain. You're surrounded by moorland and woodland, with the kind of views that make sense of why this corner of County Antrim has inspired painters and poets. There's a sense of driving through genuinely wild country, even though you're only a short hop from the coast. Walkers will find plenty of spots to pull off and explore on foot - the glens themselves offer proper hikes if you've got the energy.

Spring brings everything alive; autumn turns the whole valley amber and copper. Winter's dramatic enough too, though weather can close things down quickly up here.
