Glenduckie Hill

The walk up Glenduckie Hill rewards you with proper views across Fife - the kind of vantage point that makes you understand why people settled here centuries ago. It's not particularly high or dramatic, but that's rather the point. You get proper Scottish countryside without the slog of Ben Lomond or the tourist crowds.

The hill itself is a straightforward walk from Cupar, taking maybe 45 minutes to an hour depending on your pace and which route you take. The path is well-trodden enough that you won't need a map, though the terrain can be boggy in places after rain, so decent boots are worth the bother. On a clear day you can see right across to the Ochils and beyond. On a grey one - which, let's be honest, is most days - you'll still spot enough to make the trip worthwhile.

It works brilliantly if you're based at Snugs at Logie Farm, which sits barely half a mile away. That's close enough for a morning walk without needing to load the car. Families with capable walkers will manage it fine; younger kids might find the boggy bits tiresome. History types will appreciate the old settlements scattered across the landscape, though there's nothing dramatic to see up close.

The best approach is to go midweek outside peak season. Weekends can draw local walkers, and the car park - if there is one - gets rammed. October through April gives the clearest views, though conditions underfoot are admittedly muckier. Bring a thermos. The wind at the top is proper keen.
