Go Ape Wyre

Climbing through the canopy near Bewdley is what Go Ape Wyre does best - it's an aerial adventure park where you're harnessed up and working your way across rope bridges, zip lines, and wooden platforms strung between trees. The courses range from beginner to proper challenging, so families with younger kids can tackle the easier routes while anyone after a proper adrenaline hit can go for the advanced stuff.

You'll spend a good two to three hours here, depending on which course you choose and how cautious you're being. The instructors kit you out with all the safety gear, talk you through it, then you're off to fling yourself about in the treetops. It's genuinely fun - far less cheesy than you'd expect.

Go Ape isn't free, and you'll need to book ahead online. It's aimed squarely at families and groups after something more active than a stroll round a holiday park. Kids need to be at least 1.4 metres tall for most courses, which rules out the very young. Older children and teenagers absolutely love it.

If you're staying at Little Lakes Holiday Park or Hopleys Family Camping - both within striking distance - this breaks up the week nicely. It's not a full day out on its own, so you'd want to pair it with a wander round Bewdley town centre or a proper walk along the River Severn. Good weather is pretty essential; heavy rain makes it miserable. Spring and early autumn tend to be ideal - mild enough to enjoy hanging about in the trees but not roasting in summer heat.
