Godrevy Lighthouse

The lighthouse stands on Godrevy Island, a rocky outcrop just off the Cornwall coast near Hayle, and it's one of those landmarks that works as both a proper walk destination and a striking photo stop. Red and white striped tower, working light, and the kind of Atlantic views that remind you why people came to Cornwall in the first place. You can't get inside the lighthouse itself - it's still operational - but the beach walk out to see it is the whole point. Allow a couple of hours if you're making a proper morning of it. The walk from Godrevy Beach takes about twenty minutes across the sand, and it's accessible enough for families, though timing matters. Check the tide before you head out because the route can disappear at high water, which rather defeats the object.

It's the sort of place that rewards an early visit before families pile in, especially in summer. The sweep of beach either side gives you enough space to breathe even when it's busy. Photography types will camp here at golden hour, and kids find the rock pools and sandy terrain engaging enough to justify the walk. Free to visit and no faffing with opening hours - you come when the tide and weather suit you.

Godrevy slots well into a wider Hayle-based holiday if you're staying at one of the nearby parks like Riviere Sands or Polmanter. It's close enough for a half-day excursion without feeling like a trek, and the surrounding beaches - Gwithian, Godrevy Beach itself - mean you could easily spend two or three days in the area without repetition. Not groundbreaking, but solid Cornish coastal work.
