Gospel Oak

Gospel Oak sits just outside Winchester, a modest hilltop that doesn't announce itself with drama but rewards the short walk with proper views across the Hampshire countryside. It's one of those spots where you climb for twenty minutes and suddenly Winchester cathedral spire comes into focus below, along with rolling chalk downland stretching toward the Test Valley.

The walk itself is straightforward - nothing technical, though it does get a bit steep for the final push to the summit. You're looking at around forty minutes there and back from the nearest car park, depending on fitness. The peak itself is small enough that you won't spend hours up here, but it's the kind of place where you actually want to sit for a bit rather than just tick it off.
