The Grafham gallery sits in a quieter corner of Cambridgeshire, east of Huntingdon, and honestly it's the sort of place you stumble upon rather than deliberately seek out. What you get is a working artist's space that doubles as exhibition room - a proper creative hub rather than some polished commercial operation.

Inside, the emphasis is on contemporary work from regional artists. Paintings, sculptures, mixed media pieces. It's modest in scale, which means you won't spend hours here, but that's rather the point. You can absorb what's on show in forty minutes or so without feeling rushed or overwhelmed by the sheer volume of stuff.

This works brilliantly if you're already camped at Grafham Water Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite just down the road. After a morning on the water or walking the reservoir paths, the gallery makes a decent afternoon diversion - somewhere to get out of the wind, stretch your legs, maybe chat with whoever's running it that day. The staff tend to be artists themselves, which means actual conversations rather than scripted spiels.

Families with older kids will find it fine; younger ones might get antsy unless they're into art already. It's really a spot for walkers and culture types doing a broader Cambridgeshire loop between Huntingdon and St Neots.

I'd check opening hours before making the trip, as smaller galleries can be variable, but if you're staying local, it's worth a look.
