Grafham Water Sailing Club

You'll find the sailing club on the eastern shore of Grafham Water, a proper water sports hub that's been going for decades. It's a working marina first and foremost - you'll see dozens of dinghies and keelboats moored up, and on a decent day the water's alive with sails. If you're a sailor yourself, this is where you come to join in. If you're not, there's still plenty to watch from the clubhouse area, and the vibe is friendly rather than snooty.

The club runs racing programmes and casual sailing throughout the year, plus sailing lessons if you fancy learning. Non-members can often grab a visitor's mooring or take out a day boat if you book ahead - worth ringing to check current policy. Most people allow a couple of hours to get a feel for the place, though serious sailors lose entire afternoons here.

It works brilliantly as part of a Grafham Water holiday. The lake itself is a proper outdoor destination - walking, fishing, and birdwatching all round the perimeter. Stay at the Grafham Water Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite (1.5 miles away) and you're within spitting distance. The sailing club gives you activity and focus if the weather turns too rough for the broader lake, and the clubhouse usually does decent coffee.

Huntingdon's nearby if you need town facilities. Fair warning: it can feel a bit exclusive if you're just wandering in without a boat, but the staff are usually welcoming enough.
