Graig Fach-goch

The walk up Graig Fach-goch is a proper hill rather than a mountain, which means you'll actually reach the top without needing crampons or a support team. It's a modest peak in Ceredigion, inland from Tywyn, and the views across West Wales are genuinely good - on a clear day you can see right across the Cardigan Bay area and into the Cambrian hills beyond.

The ascent takes about an hour depending on fitness, and the terrain is steep in sections but nothing technical. You'll pass through bracken and rough grassland, with the occasional scramble over loose rocks. It's exactly the sort of walk that justifies a morning out without eating into a whole day - handy if you're based at one of the nearby holiday parks like Cambrian Coast or Searivers and want something between a gentle stroll and a proper fell walk.

Historically it's not a celebrated peak with much fanfare, which means you won't find crowds even in summer. Families with reasonably confident walkers (say, eight and up) could manage it fine, though younger kids might find the steep bits tedious. Hill walkers will appreciate it as part of a longer route through the area rather than a destination in itself.

The nearest town is Tywyn, which has the essentials for supplies and a decent fish and chip shop, though there's not much else nearby. Start early in the day if you can - the weather turns quickly along this coast, and you'll want good light for the views. No facilities at the summit, so bring water and a packed lunch.
