The forest floor at Graig-felen Plantation is soft underfoot, which is about the best thing you can say about it straight away. This is a working woodland on the outskirts of Swansea where locals come to stretch their legs without faffing about for hours to reach the Welsh hills. The main draw is a network of trails that wind through dense conifers and older deciduous trees - nothing dramatic, but proper peaceful if you catch it on a quiet weekday morning.

It's the kind of place that rewards a ramble rather than a destination visit. You won't find viewpoints or installations, just trees, paths, and the occasional sound of birds. Families with young kids might get forty minutes out of it before boredom sets in, but walkers treating the Swansea area seriously could easily loop this into a broader circuit. The paths are mostly manageable, though some sections get muddy after rain.

If you're based at Riverside Holiday Park or SWDA Riverside just down the road, you could knock out a two-hour walk without much fuss.
