Standing at 387 metres, this modest fell sits just across the Yorkshire border from Skipton, making it a proper gentle introduction to Pennine walking. The summit rewards you with sweeping views across the Ribble Valley and towards the Yorkshire Dales, though don't expect Pen-y-ghent drama - this is more about a pleasant afternoon's ramble than serious peak-bagging.

Families with older children will find the walk manageable, though toddlers might struggle with the boggy sections near the top. The path from Gisburn Forest is the most straightforward route, taking about an hour and a half each way through mixed woodland and open moorland. Pack waterproofs - the weather can turn quickly up here.

Staying at Holgates Ribble Valley puts you within easy striking distance, while those based at Parkdean Resorts Todber Valley can combine it with exploring nearby Gisburn Forest.
