Green Hill

From the summit of Green Hill, the Pennine landscape rolls away in all directions - a proper reward for what's actually quite a manageable climb from Skipton. The peak sits at a decent height without being a leg-burner, making it ideal for families with older children who fancy something more adventurous than a riverside stroll.

Walkers will appreciate the well-defined paths leading up from the Skipton side, though you'll want decent boots if it's been wet - the higher sections can get properly muddy. The views from the top take in the Yorkshire Dales to the east and Lancashire mill towns to the west, giving you a real sense of standing on the boundary between two very different landscapes.

It's the sort of hill that rewards early morning efforts with clearer air and fewer people, though any time of day offers good walking. Allow two to three hours for the round trip from Skipton, depending on how long you linger at the top taking photos.
