It's a straightforward hill rather than a peak that'll take your breath away, the kind of spot locals use to burn off an hour or so without faffing about with maps and ropes.

The real draw here is how accessible it is if you're based at one of the nearby caravan parks. Gorsebank and Boutique Bothy Glamping Barns sit practically on the doorstep - you could stroll up before breakfast - while Coastal Kippford and Kippford View are close enough for a morning jaunt. Families with younger kids will manage fine; walkers after a proper hike might feel it's a touch underwhelming. The approach from Dalbeattie itself is straightforward enough, though you'll want decent shoes if the ground's been wet.

There's no visitor centre or facilities to speak of, so bring water. The walk itself takes about 45 minutes up and back depending on your pace and how long you linger at the top. Go when the weather's clear - a misty day here strips away much of the appeal. It's the sort of spot that slots nicely into a wider exploration of the area, breaking up a park-based holiday rather than anchoring a whole day out.
