Grove Copse

A proper woodland walk through Devon countryside, Grove Copse sits within easy reach of Honiton and rewards a morning's exploration if you're staying nearby. The forest itself is genuine old-growth woodland - the kind where you can actually hear birdsong rather than car noise - with a decent network of paths threading through mixed deciduous trees. Nothing flashy about it, but that's partly the appeal. You get decent shade on warm days and the paths are generally well-maintained, though muddy stretches are guaranteed after rain.

This works best for families with kids old enough to manage a two-hour circuit without complaining, or serious walkers after a gentle morning amble rather than a challenging hike. There's something satisfying about getting lost in actual forest when you're on a park holiday - it feels properly away from it all. The walk clears your head in a way that a manicured country park doesn't quite manage.
