Grove Spinny

A small woodland tucked away near Bridgwater that does exactly what it says on the tin - it's a proper little forest walk without the faffing around. Grove Spinny is the sort of place you stumble upon when exploring Somerset's quieter corners, dense enough to feel like you've actually left civilisation behind for twenty minutes, but modest in scale so you won't need hiking boots or a Ordnance Survey map.

The trees are thick here, which means it's decent in summer when you want shade and stillness. Walk the paths through, and you get that damp woodland smell - moss, decomposing leaves, the works. It's not a destination that'll stop you in your tracks, and you won't find dramatic viewpoints or dramatic anything really. What you will find is somewhere to stretch your legs if you're staying nearby, maybe let the kids burn off energy running between the trees.

If you're based at Middle Stone Farm Glamping just down the road, this fills a gap on a day when the weather's okay but not stunning. An hour's wander maximum. It's free to access as far as I can gather, and there's nothing fancy to organise. Go in the morning if you want the wood quieter and the light better through the canopy. Families will get something from it, but it's genuinely low-key - don't expect fairy tale magic or Instagram moments. Sometimes that's exactly what you want though.
