Guys Cave

Deep in the Warwickshire countryside sits this natural sandstone cave, carved by centuries of water erosion into the hillside. Guy's Cave isn't exactly spectacular - we're talking about a modest hollow rather than the cathedral-like caverns you'll find elsewhere in Britain. Still, it's free to explore and makes for a decent leg-stretcher if you're staying nearby.

Families with young children seem to get the most excitement from it. Kids love the adventure of ducking into the entrance and shouting to hear their voices echo off the walls. The cave extends back about 20 metres, though it gets pretty dark towards the rear - bring a torch if you want to explore properly.

Located just outside Warwick, it's easily reached on foot from several walking routes that wind through the local farmland. Allow about half an hour for the visit itself, though you might want longer if you're combining it with a countryside walk. The approach can get muddy after rain, so proper walking boots are wise.

For those based at nearby parks like Warwick Racecourse Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite or Knight's Village, it's a pleasant afternoon diversion rather than a destination in itself. Geology enthusiasts will appreciate the sandstone formations, but most visitors come for the novelty factor. Worth including in a longer walk, but probably not worth a special trip.
