Gwaun Cascade Waterfall

The walk to Gwaun Cascade near Fishguard is a proper little gem if you don't mind getting your boots muddy. Water crashes down through a narrow wooded gorge - nothing dramatic by Alpine standards, but genuinely lovely in person, especially after rain when it's thundering down. You'll find it tucked into the Gwaun Valley, which is one of those corners of Pembrokeshire that feels properly tucked away from the crowds.

It's a straightforward riverside walk that takes maybe 45 minutes there and back from the road, though the path can be slippery and overgrown depending on the season. Families with older kids will manage it fine; younger ones might find the muddy bits tiresome. The real draw is the quiet - you won't be jostling with tour groups here. Go in autumn or after a spell of wet weather when the waterfall's actually worth the effort.

Fishguard itself sits just over a mile away, and there are several caravan parks in the immediate area - Fishguard Holiday Park and Fishguard Bay Resort are practically on your doorstep if you're basing yourself there for a Pembrokeshire break. It's a decent spot to tack onto a wider walk of the valley or combine with a coastal day trip to Goodwick. Admission is free and there's no particular opening hours - just turn up and park sensibly. Allow a couple of hours if you're in no rush and fancy a proper poke around the valley.
