Gwernwyddog Standing Stone

You'll find this Bronze Age monolith standing alone in Carmarthenshire countryside, a few miles from Brecon - the sort of thing you stumble upon while walking the Beacons rather than plan a trip around. The stone itself is modest by standing stone standards, but that's precisely why it matters. No gift shop, no visitor centre, no crowds interpreting what ancient people "must have been thinking". Just a weathered block of rock that's been here for roughly 4,000 years, doing what it's always done.

The approach involves a bit of navigation through farmland, which keeps casual tourists away - something to bear in mind if you've got young kids expecting an obvious path and a car park.
