Half Moon Spinney

The woodland at Half Moon Spinney is a proper little escape if you're staying around Stamford way. It's not vast - you're looking at a few hours maximum to work through the paths - but the trees do their job well enough, offering genuine shelter from the Lincolnshire wind.

The ground is relatively flat and well-trodden, which means families with younger legs won't struggle, though pushchairs might bog down after rain. Walkers appreciate it more than you'd expect for such modest acreage. The canopy blocks out enough light that even on scorching days it stays cool, and there's a decent sense of separation from the surrounding farmland.

If you're staying at Stamford Meadows Glamping just down the road, this works as a morning or late-afternoon wander rather than a headline event. Combine it with a proper walk into Stamford itself - the town's worth an hour or two - and you've got a solid half-day sorted. The spinney has that slightly overgrown, nobody-quite-looks-after-it charm that appeals to people who prefer woods to parks.
