Halfland Strip

The Halfland Strip is a narrow stretch of ancient woodland running between Dunbar and the coast, and it's the sort of place you'd miss entirely if you weren't looking for it. What you get here is proper Scottish lowland forest - gnarled oaks, birch, and the occasional stand of conifers that've been here far longer than the caravan parks nearby. There's a walking path threading through, nothing fancy, but it gives you a genuine sense of what this landscape looked like before the farms and houses claimed everything else.

It's brilliant for walkers wanting something quieter than the main coastal trails, and families with kids who can manage uneven ground will find it peaceful without feeling remote. The woodland opens up in places where you can spot towards the Firth of Forth, which breaks up the greenery nicely. Allow an hour for a decent wander, longer if you're a slow photographer. Go in late spring or early autumn when it's not dripping wet.

From Belhaven Bay Caravan Park, you're just down the road - makes for an easy morning walk before heading back for breakfast. It won't take your whole day, and it's free to access, but it's the kind of place that anchors a park holiday in the real landscape rather than just the facilities. Worth the detour if you're staying locally.
