If you're staying at The Galloway Steading or Sands of Luce - both solid options just down the road - Hamilton Wood makes a sensible afternoon diversion. It's the sort of place you go to clear your head rather than tick a box. Free, presumably, and year-round accessible, though it'll be at its best when the weather isn't biblical and the ground isn't a bog. Bring decent boots regardless.

Worth the detour? If you're already in the area and fancy a woodland walk without the navigation faff, yes. Don't plan your holiday around it, but don't skip it either.
