Harbour Beach

The pebble beach at Harbour curves into the estuary with a quiet, working charm that most Devon beaches have lost. There's a proper slipway running down to the water, fishing boats still working from here, and the kind of low-key atmosphere that suggests most visitors haven't bothered to venture this far. It's good for a couple of hours - walking the shoreline, paddling if the weather's kind, spotting waders at low tide. Kids will enjoy the shallows and the novelty of an actual functioning harbour, though the pebbles aren't soft underfoot.

Kingsbridge sits just inland, so you're not isolated - there are shops and pubs within a short drive. The beach itself is free and there are no formal opening hours; you just turn up.

What makes Harbour work for a park holiday is proximity to Karrageen Caravan & Camping Park, barely a mile away, and South Devon Camping at Lower Terawhiti Farm equally close. Both are well-reviewed, which means you can base yourself without feeling you've compromised on accommodation. The water can be chilly even in summer, and on rough days the pebbles shift underfoot, so it's not everyone's idea of a bathing beach. But if you want somewhere genuine rather than touristy - somewhere locals still use - this is it. The estuary views are proper, especially at sunset.
