Harriford Copse

A proper woodland walk rather than a destination in itself, Harriford Copse sits just outside Tiverton and delivers the sort of quiet forest ramble that Devon does so well. The trees are dense enough to feel properly secluded, with decent paths running through - ideal if you're after a break from the moor or need to stretch your legs without committing to a full day's hike.

It's best suited to walkers who appreciate woodland rather than drama. You won't find dramatic viewpoints or ancient monuments, just good honest forest - sessile oaks, birch, the occasional stream. Kids might get restless after forty minutes unless they're the sort who like poking about in undergrowth. The copse works brilliantly as a half-hour detour if you're based at Nirvana Glamping nearby, or as a morning walk before heading into Tiverton itself.

Timing-wise, allow an hour maximum for a decent loop. Spring and autumn are genuinely lovely here - the canopy filters light beautifully in May, and autumn colour is proper worth the visit. Summer can be muggy under all that leaf cover. There's no visitor infrastructure that I can find, so come prepared for muddy boots and bring a map or offline GPS if you're not familiar with the paths.

Frankly, this works best as part of a bigger Devon day out rather than a standalone trip. But if you're staying nearby and want woodland air without driving anywhere, it's hard to fault.
